About the Work:

Edward Rice’s painting technique is essentially pre-modern. After the image and format are selected, an accurate line drawing is established on the canvas. This is followed by a monochromatic under painting usually in raw umber and lead white, which establishes not only tone but surface texture as well. Layers of color are then applied, resulting in a contemporary painting forged from traditional techniques.
