Artist Biography:
Arianne King Comer completed graduate studies in Fibers from Cranbrook Academy of Art and continued her studies through a USIS/UN Travel Grant to Oshogbo, Nigeria. She was drawn to St. Helena Island after studying textile design and indigo dying in Nigeria.
The rural sea island bridged Arianne’s knowledge of traditional African arts to its American counterpart, the art of the Lowcountry Gullah culture. Comer currently resides in Noth Charleston at the old naval base where she runs an artist residency program while pursuing her craft.

About the Work:
It took going to Oshogbo to lock in my pathway
I am an indigo child
Osun Ronke
A Native Daughter
I celebrate my blessing
a messenger through the magnificent world of creating
Looking at waters, beautiful southern skies and ancient trees
I humbly yet joyously live to create through all the senses
All the elements of the arts
No limitations
Just be
A vessel of exploration
Ashe Gon!
