About the Work:
This body of images depicts a classic representation of the diversity, subtlety, and vitality of the Lowcountry’s natural landscape. It asks of us a contemplative assessment with its broad vistas and soft landforms, defined mostly by water and wind, tide and light. My interest in photographing the Lowcountry is driven by a passion for nature and the belief that the natural world embodies mystery and aesthetic power beyond any rational understanding. I am not so much enamored of the photography as I am of the feelings and emotions generated by the natural world.
If ecology is all about the diversity of living things and their interrelationships, then nature photography is about the diversity of aesthetics that define our emotional response to Mother Earth. This very response connects us to the pulse of life. Images of nature remind us of who we are and, more importantly, that the well-being of our spiritual landscape is inherently bound to the integrity of our natural landscape.
